The Ignite: Impact Challenge focuses on the unique stories of individuals impacted by Public Law 119-21, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The bill, and this challenge, covers five key categories of impact. You can access the full bill here.

To help break down the bill, here is a brief summary of each category and what the bill covers:

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) & Medicaid are resources that millions of U.S. citizens rely on to survive. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act has several changes impacting these resources:

  • Reduces federal funding for both programs over the next 10 years
  • Cuts to overall federal health programs

Student Loans

Millions of U.S. citizens currently have student loans. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act overhauled the federal student loan process including:

  • Creates tighter borrowing limits for student loans, notably impacting those of lower and middle-incomes
  • Reduces repayment options from seven down to two
  • Sunsetting the SAVE (Saving on a Valuable Education) plan

Immigration & Border

The federal immigration and border policies have changed under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, impacting U.S. citizens, legal immigrants, and those who might immigrate to the U.S. Some of the changes include:

  • Budget and funding allocation to immigration-related provisions including border security and deportation or detention centers
  • Changes to fees on application for asylum, work permits, and other pathways to legal migration
  • Removing access to public benefits, like SNAP, to certain migrants with legal status

Energy & Climate

Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, there are a number of key changes to energy and climate policies and practices. These include:

Changes to green energy efforts, like restrictions on energy tax credits or cuts to solar and wind energy
Provides support to oil and gas industries, such as reinstating deductions and increasing tax credits
Delays funding for agricultural and forestry conservation

Taxes

Tax changes affect both business and individuals. These impacts can have cascading effects into personal, business, and even state budgets. Some of these changes include:

  • Tips for service workers will be tax deductible up to $25,000
  • Car Loan Interest is tax deductible up to $10,000
  • Research & development expenses can be deducted the year they are incurred.
  • The increase of the federal deficit, driven by less tax revenue and more spending.
